She stopped running when the sounds of battle were far behind her and she could only hear the light sounds of nocturnal nature. She knew the Elves would not leave their comrades to chase her. But she also knew it was because the battle at hand was more important that a single vampire.
She sat down finally with herlegs swinging high in the air on a thick branch. She found herself thinking of her past, as she found herself doing more since Yogishna was killed.
If not for his death, she would still be his "Yogita", his pupil and slave. As long as the master vampire lives, and vampires created from it must obey it's will. As long as Yogishna lilved, Shimera was nothing more than a puppet with teeth.

One
Shimera bowed her head quickly as her master came into the tent. Her elven ears perked noticeably as she listened to the battle outside.
Tanko glared at her with a trickle of blood dripping into his eyes, and grunting with disgust, kicked sand into her eyes. "You are a miserable creature." He orc eyes squinted at her down turned head. He crouched in front of her and lifted the hair from her eyes with his bloodstained fingers. "We are flanked, and if it were not for your treachery, the elves would already be dead.." Then, without warning, he slapped her across the cheek, drawing blood. "I should kill you half-breed."
Shimera raised her head and watched him silently for a moment. His rough palm print spotted her pale cheek where he had slapped her. "Then why do I live?" She asked quietly, meeting his eyes.
He stood up quickly and backed out of the tent, "I suppose that I am hoping that the Elves that you aided will see your treachery and kill you for me." He laughed and kicked more dirt in her direction. "I hear that your old kin are not fond of vampires."
Shimera watched him as he walked out, licking the small droplets of blood from her chin. Her arms burned and bled where they were tied with the rough rope, but she could feel the bonds loosening with the combination of blood, sweat, and her subtle twisting movements.
Tanko was right, as much as Shimera was loathe to admit it. The Elves were not about to welcome her back into the ancient fold, regardless of her aid. She was a half-breed, an elf made vampire.
Most Elves would take their own lives, rather than to become an undead as she was. Shimera had no choice. She was captured over a hundred years before by her master Yogishna. After watching him maliciously slay her father and mother, he violently slit her throat. And as her life's blood spilled into the forest floor, he fed her his own blood. Too weak to resist, Shimera was forever changed.
Besides her Elven gifts of long life, great strength, and amazing agility, she was now bestowed with the vampire elements as well. Where she could leap over another tall elf before during play, she could now leap over tall trees during a hunt. She could crush small bones with a single hand, and move as quickly and silently as the night.
Trained as an assassin by her parents, who had learned the trade from theirs, Shimera was a born killer. Protecting her clan, kin and family from threats, she killed only when required. All of that changed when Yogishna made her. She relished the kill, taking the time to draw out the agony of death from the fiercest of warriors that she came across.
Yogishna commanded her easily, his mind bonded with hers, and she unable to resist commands by her maker. But now, with Yogishna nothing more than dust in the dusk air, Shimera knew her own mind again, and it was destroying her.
The sounds of the battle grew closer to the ten, Shimera grimaced as a particularly malicious battle cry seared through the din. She frowned, the voice could not belong to any but an orc.
Finally, with the ropes loosened enough, she closed her slender hands and slipped them through the knots, rubbing them gently. The gouges made by the rough rope were deep, and still bleeding, but they would heal quickly.
She got to her feet quickly and moved to the back of the tent, not wanting to rush out into a battle. She lifted the back of the heavy canvas effortlessly and crouched underneath.
As she rose back up to her full height, she found herself face to face with one of her jailers. But the massive orc would not be holding her captive, nearly an entire quiver of arrows had been loosed on the giant, the fatal blow entering through the tiniest of cracks in his armor near his throat.
A twig snapped behind her, and Shimera twirled around to see two Elves, glistening with the heat of battle, moving towards her, bows drawn. She smiled slightly in their direction and leaped into the trees. With her vampire speed, they would have no hopes of catching her. She jumped from branch to branch, and from treetop to vine without thought of hesitation

Shimera General Overview
This is a novel that I have been working on for some time between work, home, and family life.
The basic premise is simple, it is a horror/action novel. I think it would also make a great manga or comic book...
The main character is a reluctant vampire named Shimera.
-Overcome with guilt and grief over hundreds of people she killed during her servitude to her master, she attempts to make right. Hunted by humans, elves, vampires, and nearly everything else, she has to make things right, and avoid getting herself, and others killed. And through all of this, she must try to keep to a promise never to drink blood from a living creature.
Please feel free to read the story as I type it in my Blog. I will accept comments for this story, but please try to stick to constructive critisism as I won't respond to rudeness or cruelty. This is a novel in progress, so some scenes that have been written are not in chronological order, so please bear this in mind as you read through. Once all scenes are written, I will put it together in a proper format.
If you have fan art, or suggestions for anything that I can do better, more of, less of...than by all means, send them to me.
